LGD: "The future of television has come" to get OLED world!

On the afternoon of September 12th, Beijing time, the "The Future of Television Has Come" OLED Summit was successfully held at the Beijing R&F Renaissance Hotel. This major event brought together industry leaders from machine manufacturers, content providers, and technical R&D experts, with over 200 guests in attendance—making it an unprecedented gathering. Industry professionals shared insights on product development, market trends, and the future direction of OLED TV technology, offering a glimpse into what the next generation of television could look like. The summit also announced that OLED technology is set to become the dominant force in the future TV market. Attendees were able to experience the visual appeal of OLED displays, which feature self-illuminating pixels and no backlight, making them the best display material available today. After the summit, we had the opportunity to interview key figures from LG Display, including Mr. Lu Xiangde, President of LG Display, Mr. Huang Longqi, Vice President of the TV Division, and Mr. Yin Yusheng, President of LG Display Greater China. They discussed the future of OLED technology, market strategies, and LGD’s plans for growth in China. Mr. Lu Xiangde emphasized that the fourth industrial revolution is reshaping the world, and as the Internet of Things becomes more integrated into daily life, displays will play an even more critical role. He stated that OLED is not just about TVs—it's about redefining how we interact with displays in every environment. The future lies in innovation, design, and building a complete ecosystem around the technology. He also highlighted that LGD is confident in its ability to upgrade OLED technology rapidly. In just two years, they have made eight major improvements. With a strong focus on large, medium, and small-sized panels, LGD aims to increase OLED screen sales from 5% to over 40% by 2020. In terms of the Chinese market, Mr. Lu noted that while it may take some time for OLED to gain full traction, the potential is huge. He believes that Chinese consumers will eventually embrace OLED due to its superior quality and performance. Mr. Yin Yusheng provided updates on LGD’s new 8.5-generation OLED panel production line in Guangzhou. The factory is currently under construction and is expected to start operations in the first half of 2019. Once operational, it will contribute significantly to the local economy, creating jobs and boosting the entire supply chain. Mr. Huang Longqi added that once the Guangzhou plant is fully operational, annual OLED panel output is expected to reach 6 million units by 2020. While OLED remains primarily a high-end product, LGD is working towards reducing costs to make it more accessible to the general public. The goal is to bring prices down to $1,500 or less, allowing OLED to reach a broader audience. Additionally, LGD has already achieved 8K resolution in OLED technology, with plans to mass-produce such panels by mid-2019. As the industry moves toward 8K, OLED’s energy efficiency and picture quality give it a clear advantage over LCDs. In conclusion, this summit showcased the immense potential of OLED technology and its promising future in the television industry. LGD is clearly committed to leading the charge, and with continued investment and innovation, OLED is set to become a household name in China and beyond. We look forward to seeing this groundbreaking technology become more widely available, bringing stunning visuals to millions of homes.
