# The original innovator # iPhone 8 Plus deep space gray boxing machine

The iPhone 8 Plus is the 11th-generation smartphone from Apple, launched during the company's product event at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park on September 13, 2017, at 1 AM. It features a glass front and back design, supports wireless charging, and is powered by Apple’s latest A11 Bionic chip. The device comes in two storage options: 64GB and 256GB, with a starting price of 6,688 yuan in mainland China. You can find the official purchase link on Apple’s website.

1. Reasons to Buy

When it comes to buying reasons, this one is quite unique—full of twists and turns. I finally managed to get my hands on it through some tricks, selling sprouts, and even a few sneaky moves. Don’t get me wrong—I didn’t buy it for the sake of status, but rather because I just couldn’t resist the hype. Let’s skip the drama and dive straight into the unboxing!

2. Unboxing Experience

The box was well-preserved and looked bigger than I expected. At first glance, I didn’t realize it was a phone box. Please ignore the rusty knife I got from Taobao five years ago—it’s not relevant here.

Unpacking the outer box revealed the iPhone 8 Plus inside, wrapped in a transparent plastic film that felt solid and firm. This kind of packaging ensures the phone stays safe during shipping without needing extra padding. It’s clever and effective.

3. Packaging Design

The phone’s packaging box uses a dark gray color that matches the camera. It looks elegant and professional. This time, the front of the box changed from a phone image to the back design, making it more concise and eye-catching. The Apple logo is clearly visible, and you can see that the iPhone 8 Plus doesn’t have the antenna band on the back, giving it a seamless look.

Simple parameter descriptions, accessories, and capacity are listed on the box.

4. First Impressions

Opening the box, there were instruction manuals, three sealed certificates, and small changes. The deep space gray screen looked stunning, with no protective film removed yet. Its screen was spotless, and this beautiful moment would soon fade. The glass finish is smooth, and the fingerprint sensor is integrated nicely.

The family portrait includes the standard accessories: lighting head headset, data cable, and a 5V1A charger. Apple claims fast charging support, but the included charger is very basic. To truly experience fast charging, you need to buy a more powerful one, which can be pricey.

Compared to my iPhone 6S Plus, the new iPhone 8 Plus looks similar, except for the color and size. The thickness is about the same, but according to Apple, it's 0.2mm thicker than the iPhone 7 Plus. Still, it fits most cases fine.

Tearing off the protective film made a satisfying sound, almost like a slow capitalist smell, full of coppery flavor.

Removing the cover makes it look sleek and shiny.

A closer look shows that the flash has been upgraded from two-color temperature to four different ones, a great improvement for photography.

The back design is more minimalistic, thanks to the glass backplate, which eliminates the antenna band and supports wireless charging. Only the iPhone logo remains.

The bottom is consistent with previous models, no 3.5mm headphone jack, symmetrical design, one side for microphone, the other for speaker.

The traditional fragile lighting lines remain, fixed with hard paper in the middle.

This basic charger is a bit outdated in today’s fast-charge trend. But I prefer using a larger power adapter for faster charging.

The manual is now printed in color, highlighting key features of the iPhone 8 Plus.

5. Power On & Activation

A series of steps followed, leading to the activation process. Fingerprint recognition is still fast and reliable. While FaceID was introduced in the iPhone X, I still prefer TouchID for convenience, especially when unlocking while holding the phone in my pocket.

There is a True Tone setting during setup, allowing users to choose whether to enable it. This feature adjusts the screen color based on ambient light, offering a more natural viewing experience.

After entering the desktop, I noticed some visual changes compared to iOS 10, such as the signal bar returning to a ladder-like display. The control center in iOS 11 is more flexible, supporting 3D Touch and custom shortcuts.

Pulling down the notification center showed a new lock screen interface. The Today View in the App Store also received a fresh redesign.

The calculator app had its corners flattened, which I found oddly satisfying.

Other system changes are worth exploring once you upgrade to iOS 11. There are many comparisons online, so feel free to check them out if you're interested.

6. User Experience

Overall, the iPhone 8 Plus feels good in hand, with a rounded design that’s easier to grip. The glass back is more delicate, though, and it’s easy to crack if not handled carefully. Compared to the metal back of the previous model, the glass is less durable, but still sturdy.

Battery life is similar to the previous generation, but better than my iPhone 6S Plus. I think my 6S was just worn out after heavy use. The A11 chip ensures a smooth experience, and the camera is impressive, though I usually rely on my 5D3 for photography.

7. Summary

It’s still a great phone, even if it came out before the iPhone X stole the spotlight. I wanted it, needed it, and eventually got it. After all this, I’m really happy with my purchase. I’ve seen a lot of original content and shared my thoughts. It’s an eye-opening experience, and I hope others enjoy it too.

There’s so much more I could say, but sometimes laziness wins. I know my first post has flaws, but I welcome your feedback. I’ll keep sharing more original content whenever I can. Stay tuned!
