Although the sales of optoelectronic devices, sensors, actuators and discrete semiconductors jumped from a shrink in 2009 to a surge in 2010 and maintained growth last year, the market lost its momentum in 2012 because of the fragile world economy. And the uncertainty of the near-term outlook - especially in Europe and the United States, IC Insights said in the report.
IC Insights' latest forecast says total sales of photovoltaics, sensors, actuators and discrete semiconductors are expected to reach $58.2 billion in 2012, with annual sales peaking in 2011 at $57.4 billion. Among them, electro-optical light supports the overall sales growth of optoelectronic devices, sensors, actuators and discrete semiconductors. Optoelectronics revenue is expected to increase by 8% in 2012 to reach US$27.5 billion, a record high. Sensor and actuator sales growth was only 2% this year, but it was also a record $8.7 billion, while the business of discrete devices fell 6% to $22 billion.
