Servo positioning control is implemented in the PLC and implemented in the servo controller

I have a set of 300 DP communication control CU310 DP servo drives, but when returning to the proximity switch, sometimes it fails to stop in time during positioning. As a result, the system moves backward a little bit before stopping. The proximity switch is working properly, so I'm not sure what's causing this issue. Could you help me identify which components or settings might be affecting this behavior?

A: Servo positioning can be implemented either through the PLC or directly within the servo controller. If using the PLC, you can choose a 317-T type CPU with built-in positioning capabilities. In this setup, the PLC sends a speed command to the servo drive via communication and uses the feedback from the servo to perform position loop control. This method requires a high-performance CPU and fast communication speed.

Alternatively, positioning can be handled by the servo controller itself. Many modern controllers, such as Siemens' older 611U and newer S120 models, come with integrated position control functions. In this case, the PLC writes the target position, speed, and other parameters into the corresponding registers of the servo controller. Then, the PLC sends a control word to trigger a motion block in the servo controller, which executes the positioning based on the stored data. This process is fully managed by the servo controller, without needing continuous PLC involvement. Once the positioning is complete, the drive sends a completion signal back to the PLC.

This approach typically doesn't require high-speed communication, making it more suitable for standard PLCs with DP ports. It also reduces the load on the PLC, allowing it to handle other tasks more efficiently. Depending on your system requirements and hardware setup, you can choose the most appropriate method. If you're experiencing issues like unexpected movement after reaching the proximity switch, it could be related to the control logic, timing, or parameter settings in either the PLC or the servo controller. Checking these configurations carefully may help resolve the problem.
