Apple acquires New Zealand Powerby Proxi to develop wireless charging technology

[Global Network Technology Comprehensive Report] According to reports from international media on October 25, Apple has recently acquired Powerby Proxi, a New Zealand-based company specializing in wireless charging technology. While the exact financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed, the move is seen as a strategic step in Apple's ongoing efforts to enhance its wireless charging ecosystem.

As reported by the New Zealand news site stuff.co.nz, the acquisition was officially confirmed on the 25th. Founded by entrepreneur Fady Mishriki from Auckland, Powerby Proxi focuses on wireless charging solutions based on the Qi standard. The company currently employs 55 people and holds over 300 patents related to wireless charging technology.

Dan Riccio, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, stated that the Powerby Proxi team will "help Apple continue building a wireless future." He emphasized Apple’s commitment to delivering more convenient and seamless charging experiences for users globally.

Last month, when the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X were launched, Apple introduced its advanced wireless charging solution. Compatible with the Qi system, Apple’s wireless chargers are available through authorized retailers like Belkin and Mophie.

In 2018, Apple plans to release a multi-device wireless charger called AirPower. This device will support the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, and Apple Watch, allowing users to charge up to three devices simultaneously. Additionally, wireless charging cases for AirPods are also expected to be released. Currently, third-party chargers can be used with the iPhone 8, but they must limit power output to 5 watts.

This acquisition highlights Apple’s growing interest in wireless charging technology, which could lead to even more integrated and user-friendly charging solutions in the future. As the tech industry continues to evolve, Apple remains at the forefront of innovation, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in mobile technology.
