[Global Network Technology Comprehensive Report] On October 25, according to reports from foreign media, Apple has acquired Powerby Proxi, a New Zealand-based company specializing in wireless charging technology. The exact financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, but the move is seen as a strategic step in Apple's ongoing efforts to enhance its wireless charging ecosystem.
According to local news outlet stuff.co.nz, the acquisition was officially announced on the same day. Founded by Auckland entrepreneur Fady Mishriki, Powerby Proxi focuses on wireless charging solutions based on the Qi standard. The company currently employs 55 staff and holds over 300 patents related to wireless charging technology, making it a valuable addition to Apple’s growing portfolio.
Dan Riccio, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, stated that the Powerby Proxi team will "support Apple’s commitment to building a wireless future." He added that the company aims to provide more convenient and seamless charging experiences for users worldwide, further solidifying its position in the evolving tech landscape.
When the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X were launched last month, Apple introduced its advanced wireless charging solution. Compatible with the Qi standard, Apple’s wireless charger is available through authorized retailers like Belkin and Mophie, offering users a reliable and efficient way to power their devices.
In 2018, Apple planned to release a revolutionary product called AirPower, a wireless charging mat designed to charge multiple devices simultaneously. It was intended to support the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, and Apple Watch series, along with AirPods wireless charging cases. At the time, the iPhone 8 could only be charged via third-party chargers, but the power output was limited to 5 watts. This acquisition suggests Apple is moving closer to developing its own high-power wireless charging system, potentially breaking away from third-party dependencies in the future.
