How to Use the Shore Hardness Tester?

Instructions:


1. Portable Hardness Tester


Hold the hardness tester and press it firmly onto the sample until the bottom of the device is fully in contact with the surface. At this point, the reading on the dial indicates the hardness value of the material. Ensure a stable measurement by using the same type of fixed load measuring frame for accuracy. For each test, take three readings at different points and calculate the average.


2. Bench Hardness Tester


Press the right handle to lower the platform until it makes full contact with the glass plate. The hardness tester should be set at 100 degrees. Place the sample on the platform, and the same reading can be obtained. This method ensures consistent results when used correctly.


Terms and Conditions:


1. Before starting the measurement, make sure the pointer of the hardness tester is in its free state and aligned with the zero position. If the pointer deviates, loosen the screw in the upper right corner, adjust the dial, and re-align it to zero. When pressing the tester on the glass plate, ensure that the pressure pin and the base are in full contact. If the pointer does not read 100 or shows a slight angle, press the needle a few times. If it still doesn't return to zero, the device may need recalibration. Adjustments should only be done using certified weights and verification tools, so it's best to send it back to the manufacturer for proper calibration.


2. Rubber samples must meet the standards outlined in GB581 and GB527. The thickness of the rubber sample should be at least 6 mm, width no less than 15 mm, and length not less than 35 mm. If the thickness is less than 6 mm, you can stack up to four layers, ensuring they are parallel and well-aligned.


3. For plastic samples, follow the provisions of HG2—125—65. The sample should be square with a side length of 50 mm and a thickness of 6 mm, or alternatively 50×15 mm. The test temperature for plastic hardness should be 20°C ± 2°C, and the sample must be conditioned for at least 16 hours before testing.


4. The surface of both rubber and plastic samples must be smooth, flat, and free from defects, scratches, or contaminants.


5. After every 35,000 uses, it is recommended to perform 10,000 presses left and right. According to GB531, check the relationship between the spring pressure and the dial scale, as well as the condition of the needle tip.


6. After use, store the hardness tester in its case in a dry location to prevent moisture damage.


7. Regularly clean the lifting shaft and the bottom of the table, and apply a small amount of anti-rust oil to prevent corrosion.
