Tian Yulong, chief engineer of the National Defense Science and Technology Industry Bureau of China and secretary general of the National Space Administration, said that during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, the Long March 5 carrier rocket will undertake a series of major national special tasks.
Wang Hao, chief of the Long March 5 rocket of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, said that the "Long March 5" will be directly applied to major national science and technology projects such as the third phase of the lunar exploration project, the manned space station project and the Mars exploration project, and can also be used for large orbits of different tracks. Tian Yulong said that the "Long March 5" will be selected at the end of 2017 to carry out the "Chang'e 5" launch mission. In 2018, the space station project will be launched and the Mars probe launch mission will be carried out around 2020.
Tian Yulong also said that the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau launched a heavy-duty launch vehicle demonstration in 2010. It took a year to form a master plan. Through deepening the argumentation and consulting with experts in related fields, the heavy-duty launch vehicle technology plan was clarified in 2015.
At present, the state has approved the development of the first development stage of the heavy-duty launch vehicle, that is, the key technology research and the deepening of the demonstration stage. In 2015, it began to use 4-5 years to carry out key technical research work and focus on a large number of core technologies.
The heavy-duty launch vehicle is a type of rocket with a capacity of up to 100 tons in low earth orbit. After successful development, it will meet the needs of major national scientific and technological activities such as deep space exploration and manned lunar exploration in the future. At present, the US space launch system for heavy-duty launch vehicles has been transferred to the detailed design and manufacturing stage. Russia plans to develop a heavy-duty launch vehicle by 2030.
