UK: Energy-saving lamps are “bundled by residents”

Within 18 months of implementing the carbon reduction target plan, UK residents have received 182 million free or subsidized energy-saving light bulbs. According to a survey conducted by the Energy Savings Trust in July 2009, among the residents who received energy-saving lamps, an average of 6 energy-saving lamps per household were idle. During this period, the energy company only funded the renovation of 17,000 families, but a total of 6.6 million families in the UK needed help.

In fact, although energy companies spend money in achieving their emission reduction targets, they can also pass on emission reduction funds to ordinary consumers. It is estimated that within three years, energy companies will increase the electricity bill for each household in the UK to £100.

The UK Department of Energy and Climate Change defaulted in June 2009, and there were problems with the emission reduction plan, which caused huge waste. The department said: The government is increasingly worried that the number of energy-saving lamps issued to residents is too large, far exceeding the average number of lighting devices that can be installed in each household. Therefore, the risk of achieving carbon reduction under the (carbon reduction target) plan is increasing, because the energy-saving lamps issued by energy companies are not actually put into use.

The British government has decided to ban energy companies from adopting energy-saving methods to reduce emissions from January 1, 2010; provide energy companies with measures to adjust for half a year.

In 2008, Npower's turnover totaled 4.27 pounds. At the beginning, the company mainly planned to reduce the way for residents to renovate their houses. However, due to time constraints, the emission reduction targets were not completed and faced with penalties. Therefore, on November 27, 2009, even when the Christmas postal system was congested, Npower The company also distributed 12 million energy-saving lamps to British residents.

A spokeswoman for Npower said the company didn't know how much of the energy-saving lamps that were issued would be put into use. But she said: The government's carbon reduction target plan does not stipulate that the energy company has to provide proof that the energy-saving lamps are put into use. It all depends on the consumer himself.
