The report points out that between April 2012 and April 2013, the number of active connected devices in the United States increased by 47%. This increase seems impressive, but globally, such an increase can only be ranked in the bottom 5% of countries. To rank among the top 5% of countries, the increase should be as much as three times the increase.
The reason for the lower growth rate in the US market is mainly due to the number of equipment and population factors. Taking China and the United States as examples, the current number of connected devices in the two countries is equal, but the population of China is more than four times that of the United States, there are a large number of potential users, and the income of citizens is growing rapidly. Therefore, the number of active connected devices in China increased by 149% between April 2012 and April 2013.
In the future, the above factors will continue to drive the growth of the number of active connected devices in China. For example, if the penetration rate of smartphones and tablets in China reaches the level of Malaysia, it means that the ownership will increase by 210 million units. The reason for choosing Malaysia for comparison is that the per capita income of the two countries is similar.
At the same time, the number of active connected devices in India increased by 160% during the period. In the future, if the penetration rate of smartphones and tablets in India reaches the current level in China and the penetration rate of smartphones and tablets in China reaches the level in Malaysia, the number of connected devices worldwide will increase by more than 400 million.
Although the number of active connected devices in China and India rose by 149% and 160% respectively, it is still not the highest. During this period, the number of active networked devices in many countries increased by more than 200%, and more than a dozen countries increased by more than 300%.
The report pointed out that the market still has a lot of room for growth, because the current penetration rate in many countries is still low. Therefore, the rapid development of active networked devices has the potential to fundamentally change the current mobile ecosystem.
Currently, these networked devices are relatively expensive, but they are often replaced. The corresponding applications are also developed by developers in relatively wealthy countries. However, when the ownership of these devices exceeds 2 billion units, it is believed that consumers will pay more attention to low-cost devices.
