Lens report of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of the United States believes that LED street lights are not worth the candle

According to the United States Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Lighting Research Center (LRC) released a new report, questioning the cost performance of LEDs and the use of induction lamps compared with high-voltage nano lamps.

In the report of the Streetlights for Collector Roads report published by NLPIP, LRC pointed out that in the highway auxiliary road, double the LED street light is required compared with the high pressure sodium lamp, in order to achieve the ANSI/IESNA RP-8-00 standard. .

The NLPIP report does acknowledge the use of LED lighting to save energy, but the use of double poles and luminaires can make LED street lights too expensive. “The LED streetlights and the poleless lampposts we tested were shorter to meet the requirements,” said Lera Radetsky, lead researcher and principal investigator at LRC. “This has led to the cost of poles per mile in the cost of these luminaires. Some people think that the initial cost of streetlights or the savings in electricity and maintenance costs are not worth the loss.” Specifically, LRC The tested SSL fixtures did not meet lighting standards. In particular, SSL products are not able to provide the same lumens as high pressure sodium lamps.

The LRC tested 8 盏 LED luminaires, 4 盏 high pressure sodium lamps, 1 盏 induction lamps and 1 盏 metal halide lamps. The test report also pointed out that "LED street lights and electrodeless lamp poles are half the distance of high pressure sodium lamps to achieve RP-8 lighting standards.

The LRC report believes that the savings in electricity bills are inferior to the cost of additional poles.
